ICS 7 Family Culture/Background Communication Style
(Class Presentation Sign-Up: Up to 10 points extra credit depending on quality
Extra Credit Presentation: Up to 10 points for a 10 min. teaching presentation to INTERPRET presenter family culture’s less familiar communication style and behaviors.
Presenter MUST email a presentation outline to instructor for feedback and improvement seven (7) days before presentation date. Presentations begin around week 5 with only one presenter per class, so do not sign up a slot unless you can commit to completing a presentation outline one week before presentation.

Instructions: Presentation Powerpoint (10-minutes):
- 1 minute: Locate where your family is from on on a map, introduce your family, and desired outcomes of presentation.
- 1 minute: Identify your family’s cultural background that you were brought up with, and identify a few positive core-values and characteristics from your cultural background.
- 7 minute: Select a setting such work place, restaurant, home, etc to identify at least three (3) communication behaviors to interpret in depth culturally for your classmates. You are encouraged to think about behaviors that express friendliness, hospitality, respect, appreciation, discomfort, disagreement, etc.
- Identify a communication behavior that can be unusual.
- Describe a real-life example from personal experience or knowledge.
- Interpret culturally for your classmates so that they are better informed and more understanding
- 1 minute: Summary and wrap up.
