Terms
L - Lesbian: A woman whose primary sexual and affectional orientation is toward people of the same gender.
G - Gay: A sexual and affectional orientation toward people of the same gender.
B - Bisexual: A person whose primary sexual and affectional orientation is toward people of the same and other genders, or towards people regardless of their gender.
T - Transgender: Adjective used most often as an umbrella term, and frequently abbreviated to “trans.” This adjective describes a wide range of identities and experiences of people whose gender identity and/or expression differs from conventional expectations based on their assigned sex at birth. Not all trans people undergo medical transition (surgery or hormones). Some commonly held definitions:
1. Someone whose determination of their sex and/or gender is not universally considered valid; someone whose behavior or expression does not “match” their assigned sex according to society.
2. A gender outside of the man/woman binary.
3. Having no gender or multiple genders.

2013 Gay Hate Crimes Statistics
17% of LGBTQ citizens have been victimized by perpetrators of hate crimes within the past three years.
75% of these hate crime victims do not report the incidents to law enforcement.
85% of these LGBTQ victims are subject to harassment and intimidation.
20% are threatened with bodily harm or rape.
10% of LGBTQ hate crime victims are attacked or physically assaulted.
13% are groped or otherwise sexually assaulted.
40% of victims fail to report because they don’t realize their mistreatment constitutes a crime.
30% of victims fail to report because they are skeptical that the police will actually pursue the matter.
50% of the offenders are strangers below the age of 25.
30% of the offenders are previously acquainted with their victims.
History of Same-Sex Marriage in US
2004 San Francisco Mayor Galvin Newson directed city clerk to issue marriage licences to same-sex couples.2008 Calif. PROP 8 Adds to California state constitution that limits marriage to man and women 52% yes 48% no
2010 Upon appeal, US District Court ruled that the amendment was unconstitutional under both the Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment,[6]since it purported to re-remove rights from a disfavored class only, with no rational basis.
2015 37 states have legal same-sex marriage--26 by court decisions, 8 by state legislatures, 3 by popular votes.
17 states ban same-sex marriage.
June 2015 The U.S. Supreme Court struck down all state bans on same-sex marriage, legalized it in all fifty states, and required states to honor out-of-state same-sex marriage licenses in the case Obergefell v. Hodges.
